Gate Devices, Inc. manufactures a fast-acting drop gate meeting OSHA standard 1910.217 cii(a) for a type "A" gate or moveable barrier device."  They may also be arranged to operate as a type "B" gate OSHA standard 1910.217 cii(b).

"Airgates" are faster and less distracting to the operator because the fully transparent gate, with no moving frame or rubber buffer, cycles rapidly and passes no opaque surfaces between the operator and his work.

They are available in widths of 12" to 72" for straight side, hydraulic and OBI presses.  They may be built into a barrier guard system or adapted to special purposes.

 
They place a physical barrier (one that you can see) between the operator and the point of operation.
They mechanically interlock in (4) places, locking dual tripping valves shut until the gate is less than 3/8" open.
Gate descent is fast (free fall) but a buffering air cylinder slows it to prevent injury in the rare event of it actually contacting the operator's hand or fingers.
It adapts quickly to second operation jobs.  A simple latch holds the gate closed.  Hairpins in the side panels adjust to admit strip or coil stock.  The press may be run single stroke or continuous.
